Problem
I witnessed first-hand the challenges of managing the wedding business and recognised a need for better tools to ensure streamlined communication and coordination between various individuals and teams associated with the planning, organisation and execution of the big day. Indian weddings are grand and over the top yet the wedding industry is unduly distributed and unorganised with low-tech reliance.
Goal
To conceive and design the ultimate operating system for Indian weddings, combining powerful vendor tools with a seamless app for hosts and attendees.

The Research
I have been working in the wedding industry for six years, gaining in-depth knowledge and understanding of this complex trade. However, organizing a wedding in India involves at least five vendors, such as caterers, decorators, and photographers, among others, each of which faces specific challenges and frustrations. To capture the diverse perspectives and experiences within the wedding ecosystem, I used a multifaceted research methodology. This involved conducting in-depth interviews and surveys with different vendors, brides, grooms, and attendees, probing into their workflows, challenges, and aspirations. Concurrently, I also perform competitive analysis to identify opportunities for differentiation and gain valuable insights into existing solutions.

I conducted over 40 interviews, out of which 8 were with venues, 3 with photographers, 5 with caterers, 8 with wedding planners, 2 with waiters, 1 with priest, 6 with bride/groom, 2 with mehendi artists, 10 with guests and 1 with valet service provider.

Understanding the Indian wedding hosting ecosystem:

Pain-points

Key takeaways:
Most Indians spend at least 2 years of household income at their wedding.
Indians really care about
weddings.
One of the biggest expenses at weddings is the wedding venue.
There are over 50,000 wedding venues in India.
However, the management of these venues is often disorganized & informal. They rely on tools and hacks like physical registers, physical calendars, edits on flyers and Excel documents, etc.
Indian weddings host anywhere from 200 to 2000 guests.
Despite careful & meticulous preparations, arrangements are often made based on hopeful estimates, leaving room for unexpected chaos.
Every Indian couple dreams of having a wedding celebration that is truly impressive and memorable for everyone involved.

Indian brides and grooms are seeking new and inventive ways to elevate their wedding celebrations, increase guest engagement and enhance the overall experience at their wedding.
